Course Overview

Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) has emerged as an important new imaging modality. This program is designed to provide nurses and technicians a thorough update of the most recent advances in endosonographic technology and equipment, and a step-by-step guide to performing and preparing for the procedure. This course will allow the nurse/technician to discuss the most recent advances in EUS technology and equipment, describe the procedure and its role in gastroenterology, and understand the applications of the equipment and accessories.

Purpose Statement

This formal educational activity has been developed in response to GI Nurses and Associates who have expressed a need to increase their knowledge on the basics of Endoscopic Ultrasound as well as therapeutic modalities. Attendees will be given up-to-date information that may help to improve unit operations and patient care.

Learning Objective

  • Identify the role of nurses and associates involved with EUS and ERCP procedures
  • Review the gastrointestinal anatomy and physiology related to EUS and ERCP
  • Discuss the physics of ultrasound as it relates to GI echoendoscopes
  • Demonstrate proper procedure room and scope set up for the EUS system and ERCP procedures
  • Demonstrate the proper use of FNA needles
  • Demonstrate proper handling and reprocessing procedures necessary for patient ready scopes

Hands On Stations

Training will be provided through three breakout stations. Each of these stations will cover a different area of EUS.

STATION 1:

Room set-up & Balloon Application will offer tips on an effective EUS procedure room set-up, as well as training on balloon application for both radial and curvilinear array systems.

STATION 2:

Needle Set-up & Cytology Slides will be assembling FNA needles and making cytology slides.

STATION 3:

Reprocessing (Radial, Curvilinear) will provide precise training on manual, as well as automated disinfection reprocessing of echoendoscopes.

STATION 4:

EBUS, a demonstration of the EBUS system

Registration Fee

$275.00 per day
Registration for 2 Day EUS/ERCP Program @ $500.00

Registered participants for Olympus University courses must provide us with their cancellation notice five business days prior to the program date. “No-Show” registrations will be charged a $50.00 cancellation fee for their catering/meeting expenses.
